That form paragraph above doesn't really do it justice.  826DC (and Valencia) has been integral to forming who I am.  I say this all the time, but finding a community that is built around caring for others and investing in the next generation is a gift that I don't take lightly.  That is why I spend so much of my freetime either in 826DC workshops, co-leading orientation, building a volunteer community, or getting involved in fundraising.  This "place" is important to me. 

We want kids in our immediate community to have the same oppurtunities we did.  So the center is built around one-on-one tutoring on all subjects for free...for anyone.  We go into schools and make sure that teachers have the support they need and we try to offer the individualized attention that the students are so desperately missing.  We run workshops on the weekends to get kids excited about writing ANYTHING they want to write about.  It's about giving these kids a chance.  

I'm not begging for money.  I just want support.  If you can't donate, but want to get involved, contact me.  If you don't have time to volunteer, but want to support, donate!

P.S.  As a bonus, I'll be trying to make videos about my face.  I tried to make a music video with my roommate when I first shaved my face.  If you've never seen Babyface's video for "When Can I See You Again" it won't really make sense, and this was our first attempt.  Close, but no cigar. The joke here is that when I don't have facial hair (as I always have a beard) I'm a babyface.  After watching the video, I'm still not really sure it's funny, but click here to watch Steve "Babyface" Souryal sort of perform.  

826DC is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting students ages 6-18 with their creative and expository writing skills, and to helping teachers inspire their students to write. Our services are structured around our belief that great leaps in learning can happen with one-on-one attention and that strong writing skills are fundamental to future success.
